Senator Kerry doesnt get it.

In an article to the NY TImes, Senator Kerry claims that terrorism is similar to gambling and prostitution in that it is seen as little more than a "nuisance"

I don't know what context this was in, but if anyone can link me to text of the actual article I would appreciate it. I'd like to actually read what he said before I comment on this.

***************************************

FOUND IT: ''We have to get back to the place we were, where terrorists are not the focus of our lives, but they're a nuisance,'' the article states as the Massachusetts senator's reply.

''As a former law enforcement person, I know we're never going to end prostitution. We're never going to end illegal gambling. But we're going to reduce it, organized crime, to a level where it isn't on the rise. It isn't threatening people's lives every day, and fundamentally, it's something that you continue to fight, but it's not threatening the fabric of your life.'' ***************************************

Kerry just doesn't get it. A nuisance? Terrorism doesn't work like that anymore... thats like equating communism in the 80's to the Green party. Or like cancer to a head cold.

More on this later, when I get over my amazement that this clown is actually even in the race for President.

I checked Drudge but didn't see it... I was probably looking too hard for the NY Times keywords.

He's never gotten it. Why would he get it now?

I've read through his remarks and although Kerry was not actually talking about what he would do, he was talking about what his goal would be: to reach a point where the terror threat is just a nuisance, sort of like organized crime - inevitable, but contained at an "acceptable" level. I'm paraphrasing him a bit here, but that seems to be the gist of it.

The Republicans will be stretching the truth a tad to claim Kerry considers terrorism just a nuisance (emphasis on the present tense) but that would be no bigger a stretch than much of the crap the Democrats have been spewing about the Prez. His idea that we will have to just accept the terrorist threat and live with it is scary enough, actually.

He wants to get back to the good old days when you lobbed a few million dollar missiles at an empty training camp and sent an investigations team in to wonder why 200 Americans just got bombed and/or murdered.

I think I have discovered Kerry's so-called plan. His plan is to say anything he feels like saying to confuse the American voting public. He figures if we have a hard time figuring out what he is going to do about Problem "A", Problem "B", Problem "C" , etc. then the rest of the world will probably have an equally difficult time figuring out what he , Kerry, is going to do as well. All we know is that he will be able to do it smarter, better and with greater sensitivity than President Bush. Kerry figures that Bush is too predictable and that Americans along with the rest of the world will be able to figure out just what Bush is going to do before he does it which may of course be just the opposite of what Kerry would do or maybe not. If it is the opposite of what Kerry would do it would be bad. If it is the same as what Kerry would do it would still be bad because Kerry would do it smarter, better and with greater sensitivity. Does this make any sense to anyone else or am I the only one ?

Just what kind of nuisances will Americans be willing to put up with. An occasional homicide bus bombing. An occasional elementary school cafeteria homicide bombing. A crowded subway at rush hour homicide bombing. Just ask the Israelis. They have been putting up with such nuisances for a long time. Is this the kind of America we want our children to inherit from us. I think all the marijuana smoked, cocaine snorted and acid dropped is starting to have its effect on the now middle aged anti-Vietnam war generation. This is probably why Democrats are for massive stem cell research to help to cure the brain damage they suffered in the sixties and seventies.

because Kerry would do it smarter, better and with greater sensitivity.

You forgot that Kerry would always ask forgiveness from the rest of the world for anything he will do right or wrong.

Unless a very large ethnic group in the US is seriously pissed off, there will never be constant attack on US soil to the same extent as experienced in Israel. It takes mass sympathisers for mass action or mass funding, and America's enemies aren't rich enough to organise a proper campaign.

The man didn't say anything about a constant attack. The word he used was "occasional".
