So I posted about politics anyway. Clinton and nukes are two subjects you rarely see in the same sentence. Honestly, I sat down today to write up my entry on global warming, the next Ice Age and why we need to be concerned.
And then, re-researching old (and new) links I have on the subject, I kept stumbling across the same figure over and over: human CO2 emmissions account for just .06% of total global CO2 emmissions. Thats so little it stopped and made me think, do we really know whats going on?

I don't think we do. There are so many camps out there, all from respected universities and organizations that say so many different thing: global warming is occurring that will burn the Earth, global warming will trigger a European Ice Age, global warming will trigger a super Ice Age, global warming is mans fault, not mans fault but natural...and the creepy thing is, EVERYONE has charts, graphs, measurements and all sorts of scientific data to back them up.

So I'm not going to write about that after all. Too many loose ends, too much can be disputed, too much might be taken more politically than it deserves to be taken.

Youre still going to get the article about the Oil Peak. Everyone needs to know about this, and its pretty one sided: all the enviromentalists, governments, oil companies and conservation organizations agree the oil peak is close, if we havent already passed it.

As for Keine mehr Politik, well, I may cheat a little... no reason to let everyone else have all the fun.

I've been reading a lot lately about the Oil Peak, so I'm looking forward to your post. Most places I've read have said that worldwide, the oil peak will happen sometime between 2008 and 2010. The thing about the peak is, we're going to feel shockwaves through the economy long before we "run out" of oil. Brad said he had written an article on the oil peak a couple of years ago, so hey Draginol, put a link up to that please.

There's really no viable alternative fuel source that can "solve" the problem, seeing as we rely on petrochemicals for just about everything. Agriculture is going to be extremely hard hit because petrochemical herbicides and pesticides are going to be come steadily more expensive and then not available.

I'm eagerly awaiting your follow up on the subject.

Thanks, it's a wake up call for all of us, even my fellow conservatives... this goes beyond being an enviromentalist or "tree hugger" (as my fellow cons might say) but about our future and our children.

Yeah, if there were any area that needed bipartisan action, it's this one. I've also read things to the effect that some OPEC countries have been overstating their reserve numbers to keep the market stable -- well, that's eventually going to make the crash hurt even worse.

Have you looked at this site? Link

Yeah, and he doesn't pander to anybody's agenda -- "just the facts, ma'am," Dragnet style.

I think this is the best bit:

Put simply, anytime investment bankers, consulting firms, executives from "Big Oil," Dick Cheney, George W. Bush, officials from OPEC nations, Osama Bin Laden, and the Saudi royal family are in complete agreement with leftist demagogues like Michael Moore and influential environmentalists like Michael Meacher, it's safe to say "the shit is about to hit the fan."
